The Voice Benefit

You are invited to a street experience to benefit Birmingham's first ever homeless street newspaper. There will be food, musical stylings from old school rap to reggae, dance performance, silent art auction, spoken word and more.

Website Goes Live

We would like to welcome you to the first day of the The Birmingham Voice website. This site is here to not only provide more information on the paper and organization, but also to update you on the progress we have made.

How it works

Content(homeless + anyone*)

The content of the paper, that is the articles and stories, is developed by the homeless community primarily. The paper is a place for both creative expression and news from the community. It is also a place for those outside of the community to write about issues of homelessness and poverty.

Editing / Publishing(anyone)

Editing, polishing and publishing of the paper is done by a volunteer staff of the Birmingham Voice. Anyone who would like to participate is welcome to join us in creating a quality paper.

Distribution(homeless)

Getting the paper out on the streets is a key part of our process, this is the responsibility of the homeless community. The Birmingham Voice uses vendors, "newspeople," to distribute the papers. We sell the paper to our vendors at 25¢ which they resell at $1 (along with denotions.)
